The Dalton Research Institute

The Dalton Research Institute is based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is comprised of established and internationally recognised research groups in the areas of Environmental Science, Material Science, Computer Science and General Engineering. The primary function and objective of the Dalton Research Institute is to manage and promote research to enable its continued uplift in both quality and depth.

The research groups in the Dalton Institute have a successful history of maintaining a balanced portfolio of funding bodies including Research Councils, EU, government and industry. The Institute is, through its strategic plan, managing the growth in research activity and is actively promoting and supporting cross-disciplinary research in areas such as computational modelling and environmental science.

The University has recently invested over 40 million in the infrastructure of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, including newly renovated laboratories equipped with the latest technology, a new computer centre, as well as new lecture theatres and offices. As part of this development the Dalton Research Institute is shortly to be housed in purpose built office offering a suite of facilities including meeting and seminar rooms.
