Earth Systems and Environmental Science

Research at MMU embraces a wide spectrum of environmental science including atmospheric sciences, climate sciences, fluid flow modelling and hydrodynamics, environmental biology and ecology, geosciences and environmental policy development.

It is organised around three core groups:

  1. the Centre for Aviation, Transport and the Environment (CATE),
  2. the Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Flow Analysis (CMMFA) and
  3. Environmental & Earth Systems (EES).

The strategy of ESES is to undertake high impact environmentally focused research by bring together the multi-disciplinary expertise within our core groups. This is achieved through research in

  1. the environmental impact of aviation and maritime transport
  2. the development of marine renewable technology using computational fluid dynamics methods and tools and
  3. the response of Earth and ecosystem response to recent and projected environmental change.
