Earth Systems and Environmental Science
Research at MMU embraces a wide spectrum of environmental science including atmospheric sciences, climate sciences, fluid flow modelling and hydrodynamics, environmental biology and ecology, geosciences and environmental policy development.
Science research has benefited from a recent £45million redevelopment of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and a firm commitment by the University to invest in the ‘research community’ which has attracted new Professors, Readers and Visiting Professors to work with us.
Research income to the value of £11m has been attracted to the Environment Centre since 2001, including £5million in research grants and £5m from Hefce to establish OMEGA , focused on environmental sustainability in the aviation industry.
The Environment Centre has recently entered 20 researchers (17 Category A) into the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.
The Environment Centre runs a public seminar programme with international and national speakers reflecting the strength of our research culture.
Research is organised into three core research groups:
- Centre for Earth & Ecosystem Responses to Environmental Change (CEEREC)
- Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Flow Analysis
- Centre for Air Transport and the Environment
